How to avoid getting your drink "spiked" and what to do if it happens
- Be very wary of accepting opened drinks from strangers or people you don't trust, even if they are only soft drinks.
- Do not accept drinks which you have not seen being poured. Only accept drinks from the server or bartender.
- If you suspect your drink may have been tampered with, discard it and get another.
- Try not to leave your drink unattended but if you must, hide it or finish it if not too much is left.
- Go to an event or establishment with friends and watch out for each other. If one of them starts acting drunk after drinking a small amount of alcohol, she/he may have been drugged. leave together.
- Keep your eyes and ears open. If there is talk of date rape drugs leave the party or club immediately.
- If you feel odd, nauseous or drunk after only a couple of drinks, leave immediately and go to a place of safety. If you are alone or with a stranger, call friends to tell them where you are and/or go to the landlord or manager and explain your situation.
